I too served in the military proudly until I was injured. I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon and was out on my own when I was 17. I supported myself without any help from the government. I now draw assistance from the government because of the injuries I sustained during my military service. I take care of my three children with little to no help from their father. I love being privileged enough to be an American Citizen. However, for the past 15 years, I have watched the country I love spiral into an ever increasing cesspool of corruption. Big Money special interests have become the true decision makers in our government. I’ve been following the mid-term elections and the candidates very closely. Every Tea Party candidate has made statements detailing how they plan to systematically take away our rights as citizens or subvert the US Constitution for their benefit & the benefit of their big money corporate campaign contributors. President Obama has been constantly criticized about the decisions he has made in trying to get our country back on its feet. He was sworn into a presidency that was carrying almost 11 trillion dollars in debt from the previous presidency. When Pres. Obama took office, he took on the mess created by Mr. Bush. It’ll take time to start to resolve the massive national debt and unemployment. Pres. Obama has made some bad decisions and has sometimes gone against the public’s popular opinion but he is human and humans screw-up sometimes. Let’s stop the complaining about how our government is railroading us and start doing something about it. The wealthiest 1% of our country controls 24% of our country’s but there is one thing that they don’t have, the majority vote. We are 99% of the vote. If we all work together, we can stop the special interests from buying our government. Don’t vote for any candidate that received campaign contributions from big money special interests. Say no to a corporate owned America.

Hahaha!!! I loved the teabagger video.

But seriously, Tea Parties are the demonstrations organized by Campaign for Liberty. It’s founding member is Ron Paul – though he has a Senate job and can’t spend much time working with it.

Although biased press, like FOX and MSNBC, embrace or heckle us – we existed long before they knew about us. I was at the first Tea Party on Tax Day in April, 2000. Many members are Republicans – who insist on bringing their old Republican baggage with them. Many members are Democrats too.

We are angry at a huge and incompetant Government becoming even larger and more incompentant, but we also try to rise above conventional grandstanding – for Example:

    Health Care:

John Locke, who profoundly influenced the Declaration and Constitution wrote in his treatise on natural rights,”All people being equal, no-one should be deprived of their life, liberty, health or property”.

The problem with health care is that there exists a triangle between health care providers, insurance, and trial lawyers – each with the, greed driven, ability to drive up the rates of the other two. The rates have been driven up and up over the years to where it now equates to roughly 16.7 percent of our GNP. We pay more than twice, per capita, than the best providers in the world – yet we rank 38th (right behind the third world country of Fiji) according to WHO and accessability (not quality) is the hurdle.

The solution is to break up the triangle and offer doctors a pay increase (about $200,000 anually for the cost of one month vehicle insurance) to work for salary and institute tort reforms. All people, rich and poor, just have to go to the clinic if they’re sick or need a physical.

Do away with insurance and do the direct approach. If insurance was such a good Idea, why doesn’t the Fed and the State insure it’s vehicle fleet? Why aren’t employees, military and vererans given private policies to go to private hospitals?

I read the 1990 page bill out of the House – but not the 450 page addendum introduced the day of the Senate vote. It’s an abortion from what it was intended to do and what, I think, the American people wanted.

32 million new private insurance policies, at an increased premium I might add. Medicare has been cut 500 billion and those people will be given private policies. PEIA has been done away with all together and moved to Humana. Bottom line, no new people will be covered – just twice the cost. I knew it when insurance companies got nearly all the lip service during the drafting process… Do away with insurance, all people are covered, spend half of what we do now and rise from 38 to number 1.

    War on Terror:

Narrow the terms and be specific, for example A war on al Queada or the Quetta Sura Talib Tribe. A war on terror is too vague and can drag on forever like a neverending game of whack-a-mole. Eastern and Western philosophers alike stress against long and drawn out campaigns. (Sun Tzu, The Art of War Ch 3, Seven Military Classics)(Clausewitz – On War) We have done much in Iraq – but it’s an event driven withdrawl instead of a timeline. Afghanistan needs to be economically sustainable for the long haul and, at some time, we will have to take off the kid gloves if we are going to win.

Repeal the Patriot Act and the Department of Homeland Security. If we give up one degree of freedom because of September 11 – they have already beaten us and it bears a sad testament to those who gave their lives so that we can be less free… it should be more free.

I do respect the origins of what has now metastasized into the current Tea Party. I may not agree with all elements of the Ron Paul Revolution but there was a purity to the underlying philosophy. Early in the 2008 Presidential process I met a Ron Paul worker at the Navy Pier in Chicago and we talked about the issues facing the country. There is merit to many of the policy ideas. Unfortunately the foundation has been commandeered and taken over by corporations and the extreme elements of the GOP, and it has all been put under the banner of government as the evil. Do we need to hold government accountable? Definitely. But what about corporate influence? They will do more damage to our country than the government because they have no rules they have to adhere too. If you want to get down to it, the original Boston Tea Party occurred to protest the monopolization of commerce by the private British East India Company, not the British government or the King. So even as far back as the 1700’s commerce was leveraging government to their advantage so they could fleece the consumer as much as possible.

Anyway, thank you for the very insightful and intelligent comments. The discourse is the foundation of our democracy.

      Dan

I agree Dan (sorry that it took so long to reply) President Obama filled us all with hope of change for the better. But when we see Rahm Emanuel and Hilary Clinton, as well as other members of the Clinton whitehouse, and his ability to raise the most campaign funds – we start to realize that this is business as usual.
Karen Ignagni and PHARMA weasled their way into the drafting process. Goldman Sachs weasled their way into the TARP and stimulus bills – and this only confirmed suspicions.
In a free market, the rates are only what the market will bear. When the market no longer bears the cost – it makes no sense to tax the working poor and uninsured homeless to pay for homeowners and mandate the healthy people to buy a product from Insurance that supplies no service or natural resource. (this are the fundamental foundation of a sound currency) It makes me think that the current congress hasn’t put their finger on where the problem lies (which is incompetance) or they are influenced by lobbies and campaign contributions (which is corruption)… As a tea partier, and your fellow American, This all hurts me to the core. I mean really sickens me. We all used to rally behind natural people and our natural rights, the social contract and rule of a majority with rights for the minority…
Good to talk to you again Dan.

First off what have you accomplished in your life for America? I grew up in a small town without health insurance and could have worked at the chicken plant and not have made anything of myself. We were not rich and lived off of Food Stamps, buying food not beer or liquor. My mother and father did not say hey we are living off of others lets be irresponsible and have more babies and be more of a burden on the American tax payer. I grew up without much of anything. What did I do? I decided to do something with my life, I joined the U.S. military and then retired. Now I am working for a large corporation, WITHOUT a college education. I spent many years away from my family, supporting and protecting OUR way of life. I am a registered Republican, but grew up in a family of Democrats. I do not think at the moment that we can fully trust ANY politician. It seems, like anyone in the spotlight, that the politicians have their own agenda. (THEMSELVES = POWER). I am tired of the politicians, even the ones I voted for not doing what I want them to do. I see that a lot of Americans seem to think the same. That is why I joined the “Tea Party” movement. Just because you or others believe in SEX first, doesn’t mean that “Teabaggers” is what the movement is about. As for anti-American or pro-Taliban that is BS. When I enlisted in the United States Navy, I took an oath to “Protect and defend the U.S. Constitution” which is what I did for over 20 years. I love this country. We are not a perfect country, but I believe it is the best in this world. That is why so many people have and still come to this country. I’ve been overseas to many countries and believe that we have it “made” over here. We have so many people that live here that are so different, yet we are at peace. You and I or the “Tea Party” has the RIGHT and DUTIES as American citizens to make changes to our government way of doing business. I am NOT saying overthrow, but to vote out and speak out. As for you calling Tea Partier’s as being anti-American, who is the only person to go overseas and talk down about American? Ummmmm let me think. Oh yes the President of the United States. Just because there are angry people out there and can’t control their tempers doesn’t mean that all of the same “party” are like them. I don’t think that you are Mafia, just because you are from New Jersey or Chicago. Think about what you say. I love this country and would risk my life to protect it. I am a TEA PARTIER and LOVE America, I’ve fought for your right to live free and without a major Terrorist attack. I have many, many military friends that support the thoughts of the TEA PARTY and LOVE America. Again what are YOU doing or have you done to make a difference in America other than disrespect ME and others like me?

I too served my country with honor.. I joined the Marines in July 67 and graduated from the University of Tet In Hue the next year. Don’t lecture me about loving my country, I have been so scared defending my Country I have shit myself and had to live with it for almost a whole day. I was against the Viet War even before I graduated High School. but I never wanted to be drafted or go to Canada, so I decided if I am going to have to kill I might as well learn from the best. I have never considered my self ignorant enough or gullible enough to be a Republican much less a tea bagger. You showed your true feelings with the President Obama remark, I voted for him and will again in 2012, unless one of you idiots take him out and I have no doubt there are some of you plotting that right now. I agree with all Obama has said about America. I find it unique in a Democracy that one can criticize his Country to make it better. I have seen the tea bagger signs.. I saw no patriotism in any of them. I saw them ridiculing a sick man who disagreed with them. I saw all the boys with their toys bang bang. I guarantee if any of you had been thru what I experienced , instead of crapping their pants and keeping fighting like I did , they would be in the fetal position, shitting and pissing and crying for Momma. I have seen the old ignorant white trash telling the gov. to stay out of my health care and we don’t want no socialism.. never mind that they are drawing Social Security and Medicare or some other kind of socialist pension.. That’s what socialism is all about Morons. Don’t get me wrong I don’t hate any of you people, hell I don’t care enough about you to hate you. This is a free Country and it was kept free by both of us and other people like us on both sides… Semper Fi …. You can have your tea bagging parties and gun toting circle jerks and you are welcome to them. We “BOTH” fought for your right to be as ignorant as you can possibly make yourself so have at it.
We will never see eye to eye as long as you people watch Fox and Glenn Beck and believe the lies they tell you with no double checking or desire to make sure it is the truth. Like I said I am not ignorant or gullible enough to take anything I hear from Fox at face value and trust me I am not saying that to belittle you or anyone else.. it is simply a fact, I have caught them in too many lies. Regan whom I am sure was one of your idols said two things that have always stayed with me .. 1 was trust but verify and 2 Facts are stubborn things. I always verify everything I hear from all politicians no matter the party .. DO YOU? It sure don’t sound like it to me. Facts are stubborn things when they conflict with your beliefs. but you guys have managed to avoid dealing with facts that conflict with your ideas. The Republican Motto ought to be “Ignorance is Bliss ” and you guys are ever so Blissful. Have a good day and we will settle this disagreement come voting day. GOD Bless America and OUR President.
